The Givat Sharett Chesed Committee provides compassionate assistance to the Beit Shemesh community, through a diverse range of activities:

  • Assisting individuals and families in Beit Shemesh in case of an emergency, with financial or with others forms of aid
  • Subsidizing improvements to the local Beit Shemesh senior citizens home, and giving financial and practical support to the elderly
  • Funding youth programs for disadvantaged teens by providing food, school supplies and subsidies for youth organizations in conjunction with the Social Welfare Department of Beit Shemesh
  • Covering the cost of therapy for many individuals in the community and throughout Beit Shemesh   
  • Supporting single parents, financially, with homemade meals, and other personalized assistance
  • Providing food coupons on a regular basis to those in greatest need, as well as food vouchers for close to 1,000 disadvantaged families and individuals before Rosh HaShana and Pesach
  • Subsidizing tuition and/or transportation expenses for those in need, including youth at risk, as well as parents visiting children who require residential care
  • Covering the costs of eyeglasses, hearing aids, dental work, medicine, medical bills, and transportation to medical treatments
  • Distributing, free of charge, the Serving Our Nation series: preparation guides for entering the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Sherut Leumi (National Service)
  • Operating the Simcha Gemach, which provides families with wedding related items and publishing The Wedding Guide – a 60-page guide on everything you need to know about making a wedding in Israel
  • Carrying out the mitzvah of Hachnassat Kallah – assisting with wedding expenses, and setting up the couple in their new home
  • Subsidizing the purchase of appliances for those in need
  • Purchasing furniture and covering moving expenses for individuals and families in financial distress
  • Helping with rent and mortgage, utility bills, childcare and babysitting, clothing
  • Compensates technicians, when an individual or family cannot afford crucial appliance or household repairs
  • Locating suitable homes for used and donated furniture, appliances, and clothing
  • Collaborating with the Social Welfare Department of Beit Shemesh to help cover the costs of necessities for residents in dire need
  • Sending “pick me ups” to individuals or families who are going through a difficult time, or are feeling lonely and isolated
  • Welcoming newcomers into the Givat Sharett neighborhood of Beit Shemesh
  • Helping olim (new immigrants), with loans of appliances until their lift arrives, and meals and Shabbat hospitality, as they settle into their new home
  • Providing crucial assistance in times of bereavement: The GSCC Shiva Committee delivers shiva equipment, meals, and other forms of support to mourners and their families, including a free guide for the mourners
  • Assisting families whose husbands/fathers are in the IDF, for regular duty and miluim (reserve duty)
  • Providing Shabbat meals after a birth of a child, within the Givat Sharett neighborhood
